Between October 10th and 16th, 2022, the Institute for Balkan Studies of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts welcomed the researchers of the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena, Germany, within the frames of the bilateral Serbian-German project “Semiotic landscapes of multilingual border regions”. The two year project explores the multilingual character of border regions of Central and South-Eastern Europe, looking into the different semiotic resources that shape the borderland, with a special focus on the Banat region.

On Monday, October 10th, Annemarie Sorescu-Marinković, project leader, together with Svetlana Ćirković, Mirjana Mirić, Rastko Lompar and Anđelija Miladinović, organized a round table at the Institute for Balkan Studies, where the two teams discussed the results of the project so far and set the detailed plan for the one week field trip.

Starting with Tuesday, the research teams documented the linguistic landscape and did field work in several localities of Banat: Bavanište, Dolovo, Ečka, Kovačica, Pančevo, Uzdin and Zrenjanin.
