Abstract

The investigation of the traditional elements in the life of modem women in Montenegro was done on the sample of highly educated and financially independent women in such urban areas as the towns of Podgorica, Nikšić and Bar respectively. The author argues that the elements of the tradition are present in: a) the orientation of women towards legally marrying men, b) orientation towards family life, c) orientation towards having children only in the marriage. Every second woman that we observed in our research admitted to having, such traditional elements incorporated in the organization of their family life as: living in the multi-generation families or having their own parents as child minders of their grandchildren while the parents are at work.
