Appearance of taurodontism of teeth in children from region of Niš

Taurodontism is a specific anomaly of the tooth root morphology and it is rather rare in recent people. The rate of its incidence as a specific tooth type is very high in the Krapina Neanderthal population. The research was conducted on the ortopantomograms of 2640 orthodontic patients of the Clinic of Stomatology in Niš, with the aim of determining the frequency and characteristics of this anomaly. Taurodontic teeth were registered in 33 patients (1,25%). The numbers of these teeth varied from 1-16, and they always appeared in the endotaurodontic form. The discovered 106 taurodontic teeth were mainly molars: 46, 23 % M(, 53,77% M2, while 2,83% were premolars. The taurodontism appears in two forms: supraradicular in 57,52%, mostly in M,, and radicular in 42,48%, most frequently in M2. Regarding the emergence degree, hypertaurodontism appeared in 33,96%, mesotaurodontism in 49,06% and hypotaurodontism in 16,98% of the cases.
