Књижевна историја (Literary History)

Primary tabs

Literary History (Književna istorija) was founded in 1968 as a journal of the publishing house “Obod” from Cetinje, and later of the publishing house “Vuk Karadžić” as well. Its founder and first Editor-in-Chief was Aleksandar Petrov, succeeded by Jovan Deretić. During its entire existence, the journal relied on the cooperation of the research projects’ associates at the Institute for Literature and Art. In 1991 Literary History became the official organ of the Institute, and its newly appointed Editor-in-Chief, Dušan Ivanić, continued with the distinct literary-theoretical and literary-historical orientation of the journal. With Miodrag Maticki taking the position of Editor-in-Chief in 2001, Literary History broadened its concept to include interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary scientific studies and articles as well.

Утицај окултног на Луиђија Капуану и Луиђија Пирандела
Summary/Abstract: Luigi Capuana (1839–1915) and Luigi Pirandello (1867–1936) were two of the most important Italian writers who lived between the XIX and XX century. Capuana was an author, poet and journalist influenced by the works of Émile Zola, French author and founder of Naturalism, who was also one of the most important members of the Verist literary movement in Italy. Pirandello was a novelist, poet, short story writer, dramatist and author of 40 theatre plays. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1934, and his work is famed worldwide. Both authors were also influenced by Western Esotericism, especially by French Spiritualism and Theosophy, which is noticeable not only in their novels and theatre plays but also in their writings about the theory of literature and related articles. This paper deals with the presence of Esotericism and Occultism in the works of these authors and in the overall culture in fin de siècle Italy, in order to show just how important these topics are to better understand their poetic opus and ideas about literature, culture and society at that time.

Филозофија као бодеж
Филозофија као бодеж
Summary/Abstract: The paper involves critical reading and reevaluation of the 1967 essay “Metaphysical Harikiri” by Nikola Milošević. Considered is Milošević’s differentiating between mental and metaphysical harikiri, as well as theoretical concepts of Konstantin Leontiev, Arthur Schopenhauer, Friedrich Nietzsche and Oswald Spengler, which Milošević used to underpin his own thesis that likened philosophy to a blade or a dagger, with which the philosopher wounds himself. Even though Milošević never republished it in his later publications, the essay is an important part of his opus, especially in terms of his interpretation of the so-called bitter beauty of style found in some philosophical works characterized by a pessimistic or melancholy undercurrent.

Summary/Abstract: The paper draws attention to the concept of absence as the basic concept of Miljković’s ontological inspiration and the foundational idea of his poetry. In his poems, essays and critical reviews, Miljković shed light onto this concept poetically, philosophically and aesthetically. He did so by starting from the «apparentness» of physical reality, which according to him implies outdated mimesis and which can be overcome by the absence of phenomena from that reality, but also by their obligatory return from «pre-existence» into the reality of new poetry. Then, Miljković points out different kinds of absence as well as forms of absence in his poetry. Miljković agrees with Valéry that reminiscences as a psychological form of absence are the basic motif in poetry. But Miljković, having an education in philosophy, wanted to test his forms of absence at the highest level, in ontology, the fundamental branch of philosophy.
