The Strange Absence of Wartime Croatia from Studies of Aryanization
The Strange Absence of Wartime Croatia from Studies of Aryanization
Summary/Abstract: This article addresses the state of historiography on aryanization in the wartime Independent State of Croatia. Through an analysis of past and current scholarship it aims better to understand why the case of Croatia has so often been absent in comparative studies of aryanization in occupied Europe. The article first examines recent scholarship on aryanization in two other South-Eastern States (Bulgaria and Romania) whose socioeconomic composition and experience of aryanization closely matches that of Croatia before considering the research on aryanization in Croatia since 1945. Then, drawing on a range of primary archival and printed sources, it provides an outline of the key characteristics of aryanization in Croatia. Finally, it suggests where research on aryanization could go in the future to ensure wartime Croatia becomes an integral part of wider discussions on the economics of the Holocaust in occupied Europe.
The Term τρισκατάρατος in Byzantine and Serbian Medieval Literature
The Term τρισκατάρατος in Byzantine and Serbian Medieval Literature
Summary/Abstract: The starting point of this paper is the account of a council against heretics which was held by the Serbian grand zhupan Stefan Nemanja in his dominions in the late 12th century Serbia. Later, in the first half of the 13th century, Nemanja’s son and hagiographer, the first crowned king Stefan Nemanjić utilized a specific technical term “thrice-accursed” (τρισκατάρατος – трьклет) in his account of the council that was convened. Our aim is to present the levels of cultural and literary traditions which were transmitted from various Byzantine literary genres, which stem from the attic oratory as far as the 4th century B.C. (Demosthenes’ Oration against Aristogeiton), through the literary works of the rhetor Lucian the Sophist in the second century A.D., and which later entered Byzantine tradition through pseudo-Chrysostomian works, and the liturgical and historiographical texts of authors such as Romanos Melodos, George the Monk, and Constantine Manasses. We aim to present both the development in the meaning of the term thrice-accursed in its long historical path from Demosthenes to Manasses, its shift from ancient pagan to Christian semantics and thus utilization in various genres of Byzantine literature, and finally its influence on the genre of Serbian medieval hagiography, especially in the works of Stefan the First-Crowned and archbishop Danilo II in his Lives of Serbian kings and archbishops.
The Transformation of Developing Economies in the Process of Financialization
The Transformation of Developing Economies in the Process of Financialization
Summary/Abstract: Developing Latin American economies underwent a profound transformation in their productive, commercial and fi nancial sectors during the neoliberal period dominated by fi nancial capital, without reaching a process of stable economic growth or external equilibria. There are two structural features that constrain economic growth in Latin America economies, particularly in Mexico – the economic dissociation between dynamic and indigenous productive sectors that limited the accumulation process of these economies and increased exports without reaching external equilibria; and these economies have not been able to transform external liquidity into fi nance for production and investment. In this paper it is argued that Latin American countries have been dominated by large corporations, operating at the margin of their domestic productive and fi nancial markets. Th ese conditions have disabled these economies to take advantage of the favorable external sector conditions.
The Watched Memorial
The Watched Memorial
Summary/Abstract: The paper seeks to show what sort of memory of the concentration camp Jasenovac was cultivated in the SFR Yugoslavia, by reviewing the work and memorial practices applied in the Jasenovac Memorial site. The focus is on the eighties of the twentieth century, when the Yugoslav narrative was tempted. It is shown how the gradual break up of such a narrative reflected on the memory of the concentration camp Jasenovac. The paper seeks to point out on the very close links between the Jasenovac themes and the central state narratives.
Transformation of Organizational Culture in Higher Education of Serbia in Terms of Smart Learning Environment
Transformation of Organizational Culture in Higher Education of Serbia in Terms of Smart Learning Environment
Summary/Abstract: Learning and education in higher education in the conditions of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0) are experiencing rapid transformation. New technologies, first of all the Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data technology, Virtual and Augmentative reality (VR and AR) and Artificial Intelligence are creating the conditions for radical changes in the learning and education landscape and boost the transition towards the next paradigm of learning and education, presented by smart learning environment. These technologies not only accelerate, facilitate and intensify the learning and education process, but also transform the learning and education process, penetrating the essence of the relationship between the teaching staff and the students and have a far-reaching impact on the role of teachers and the overall organizational culture in higher education institutions. The paper explains the concept, division and dynamics of organizational culture in higher education in Serbia, analyses the smart learning environment, compares the advantages and challenges in relation to e-learning and explains the possible model of smart learning environment from the aspect of interaction with organizational culture at universities. The aim of this paper is to determine the opportunities, challenges and perspectives of a smart learning environment and its impact on organizational culture in higher education institutions.
Tretman otpada plazma tehnologijom
Tretman otpada plazma tehnologijom
Summary/Abstract: This paper is a short review of possible waste treatments with energy reuse and presents plasma technology, currently the most sophisticated technological solution for the waste treatment. The paper is based on the operating experience from the developed countries and the results of the existing research. Serbia will have big requests in future, regarding the integrations in the European Union and national strategic milestones. The conclusion of this review stresses that we should give the special attention to plasma technology, since the biggest disadvantage of this technology in the past, huge investment, has been solved with new achievements.

Summary/Abstract: In this paper we analyze financial crisis that hit Mexico in 1994 in order to discover common roots and patterns of financial crises in emerging markets. As we see it, orthodox economists are not capable of providing an adequate explanation of why do financial crises erupt in emerging markets. On the other hand, Minskyan liquidity explanation of international capital movements and his Financial Instability Hypothesis adjusted for the case of developing economies tell us that the roots of crises lie in overly optimistic expectations and consequent over-indebtedness ofeconomic units.
Upravljanje porođajem u Srbiji
Upravljanje porođajem u Srbiji
Summary/Abstract: In this paper we analyzed the ways childbirth has been regulated in local maternity health care institutions in Serbia through the use of different medical interventions and techniques, which have transformed childbirth from being merely a physiological process into an actively guided process in which the crucial role is played by the medical practitioners. Childbirth medicalization and hospitalization are changing not only the way childbirth is being represented and treated in local institutional setting, but also the way women experience their own childbirth. Aim of the study was to gain insight into the prevalence of certain medical interventions, as well as their consequences for women’s childbirth experiences, by analyzing women’s self-reports. Study sample consisted of 1460 women, who had given birth in one of the 30 maternity health care institutions in Serbia over the last five decades. Results indicate that some of the potentially risky interventions and practices during delivery have been more frequently used than suggested by the World Health Organization guidelines (e.g. induction and augmentation of labor, episiotomy). On the other hand, some interventions or practices that have the potential to make childbirth more comfortable (e.g. epidural anesthesia) were not prevalent enough or not available to all women. Furthermore, the overuse of medical interventions is consistently related to negative experiences of childbirth. On the other hand, epidural anesthesia is considered to be protective factor when it comes to the quality of childbirth experience, especially concerning the capacity of women to cope with the situation and to handle pain during birth. Discussion addresses the scope and limitations of the present study when it comes to understanding the ways childbirth has been medically regulated in maternity health care institutions in Serbia and the consequences of this treatment to the women’s childbirth experience. Finally, we offer recommendations for future research and practice.
Urbani predeli odrzivog razvoja

Summary/Abstract: Specific natural and cultural-historical features of a place integrate values of a cultural landscape, as a form of cultural heritage and culture of memories, which all contribute to more quality use of space and create new values of social and economic capital. An example of positive practice of conceptualisation and implementation of cultural landscape of a coastal town of Kotor in Montenegro (August 2017) crucially influences promoting the heritage, based on community, social inclusion and culture vitality. Leaders of the local community, representatives of various political affiliations have created a model of effective management from the position of citizens, but also tourists’ interests, for the best benefit of the town. Clear guidelines in local policy, with dedicated professional work and support from important stakeholders (schools, touristic and cultural organisations, NGO sector, office for youth) have regain the reputation of Kotor as an important centre of the South Adriatic seaside centre, through numerous artistic programmes, decorating the town and caring for its citizens. This can be a model to other local leaders so as to reduce devastation of the ambience, which has augmented in transition and in times of financial crisis, fall in living standards and mass impoverishment. In order to put the concept of improvement of cultural landscape into life in practice, it is necessary to set strategically the guidelines of sustainability, continuously acting, caring, and having more effective efforts from competent and dedicated people, before even starting to create the strategy of sustainable economic development of cultural landscape.
